Dear Colleagues,
 
In view of the bombs at the Ritz-Carlton and the JW Marriott in Jakarta July 17th 2009, we would like to inform you of the situation currently prevailing in Bali .
 
To date the island is calm and peaceful, and people continue going about their daily activities as usual.   The Police Dept states that it has tightened security especially at the incoming points such as the airport and the ferry harbours.
 
Individual hotels, especially the 4 and 5 star resorts with International connections, have tightened security and a number of the shopping areas, malls and restaurants popular with tourists, have security measures in place.
 
No-one anywhere in the world is able to guarantee security in their country, and it would be remiss of anyone to try to do so. We can, however, update on where current situations in our particular corner of the world, stand.
 
While not anticipating any terrorist action in our island, it is   recommended that visitors to the island take sensible precautions, such as avoiding areas where large groups of Westerners gather (such as nightclubs, bars, popular restaurants, etc).
 
Our sincere sympathies are with those caught in the tragic disaster in Jakarta yesterday, and our prayers are that the perpetrators (leaders) of the group who committed these atrocities will be apprehended and dealt with.
 
We shall continue to update should any further information come to hand.
