Art, Archeology & Volcano Tour with Dance

Bali Day Tours

JT- DPS-7

This full day tour (8 hours) is perhaps the most comprehensive of our day tours, covering dance, arts, archeology and the highlands. The trip starts with a performance of the Barong and Kris dance, combining drama,  comedy, dance  and trance. We stop in at a traditional house compound typical of the layout of traditional houses, with  various separate pavilions, each with it’s own specific purpose, such as sleeping pavilions, kitchen pavilion, guest pavilion, ceremonial pavilion, etc. No visit to the home of a Balinese Hindu-Dharma family would be complete without a peek at the private house temple, an integral part of the life of the family. Visit a small home industry silver works  in Singapadu, where silver jewellery is produced by hand, (see workers producing the articles, browse the showroom and opportunity to purchase if desired). Also stop in at the studio of a woodcarving sculptor at Mas. Bali is famed for it’s high quality woodcarvings, and almost every Balinese has an artistic streak of some sort in him/her. Here  observe sculptors seated cross-legged on the ground as they skillfully carve fascinating pieces of art,  with simple tools, resulting in superbly finished fine art pieces. (again an opportunity to visit the showroom and purchase if wished). Time permitting also visit the  gallery of a well-known artist in Ubud, featuring various styles of paintings, ranging from traditional Balinese “busy” styles, through to modern day realist. At Bedulu we stop at the  Goa Gajah or Elephant Cave , an 11th Century archeological cave, where ancient day monks chose  to meditate near the statue of Ganesa the Elephant headed god, Previously buried pools here offer insight into ancient traditional engineering methods of piping water from springs. Visit also the Sebatu holy springs, another feat of ancient engineering, nestled in the cooler area of the highlands. These spring pools, renowned for healing properties, are usually busy with bathers from the surrounding area. Our furthermost point of turnaround is Penelokan (Place for Looking) on  Mt. Batur, where we overlook the crater lake. Lunch will be taken on tour at own expense.
